Although regular wood glues were sold by Henkel since 1925, the Pattex story begins with the year 1956 – the revolution in the glue market. Product developers created after long cooperation with German Craftsmen the first contact glue which was cold-curing – called Pattex. So far, craftsmen had to heat up glues prior to applying them – a dangerous and time-consuming task. Pattex listened to this complaint and developed a product which is applicable at room temperature – thus offering a strong and easy-to-use and safe solution.
A few years later, 1964, the Pattex contact glue could be filled in small tubes of 125g as well, opening the door to households – and finding usage for smaller repair tasks.
Pattex launched the first Super Glue based on Cyano-acrylate technology, an instant repair glue for small surfaces working within seconds. A breakthrough invention that makes life of all households much easier from now on.
In 1989, Pattex offers to its users glues specialised for mounting objects on walls – with instant tack it was now not necessary anymore to fix or hold objects for hours on the wall! The new category of construction adhesives was born.
One decade later, in 2001, another revolutionary invention was brought to the market – a 2-component epoxy-putty which enables not only to glue broken objects but also to reconstruct and / or seal these if needed.
In 2009 (introduction date varies heavily depending on country), Pattex makes construction adhesives accessible to all glue/DIY beginners. With the new marketing concept „No More Nails“, everybody understands that drilling and using nails are working techniques of the past for fixing objects to the wall! The new way of working is gluiing things.
In 2010, the new identity of Pattex is revealed! With a new logo, a new claim and a facelift of its packs, the brand looks fresh and young again – and powerful as always.
Pattex products are available in more than 50 countries – under various sister brands depending on the region and differ only in terms of name and design but not their technology. In Mexico, for example, the products are called ‘Resistol’ and in Canada the consumer knows them as ‘LePage.’ In Germany, the adhesive strength of Pattex has become renowned over the last few decades. If someone or something “sticks like glue,” Germans tend to say that it “sticks like Pattex.”
